I’d like to thank the Americas Cup team for coming to Plymouth, and all the sailing teams for putting on such a fantastic show. It was some of the most spectacular sailing I’ve ever seen. Enhanced by the audio visual team, who did an amazing job, and the commentators who really added to it all.
Well done for all those in Plymouth who came together to make it happen – the members of the council and local businesses.
From people that have emailed me, and people I have spoken to in Plymouth during the event, it really was thoroughly enjoyed by a great many people. Sailing fans naturally loved it, but many people who knew little or nothing about sailing were captivated by it all. It brought people together, to enjoy the Hoe and Plymouth Sound, to look out on that wonderful expanse of water and see a truly world class spectacle taking place. It instilled a valuable sense of pride in the city for many. It managed to make people turn, away from the (anonymous) city centre, and stand, not with their backs to the sea, but looking out across Plymouth Sound, with eyes wide open, seeing the beauty of the Sound, the power of the wind, and the thrills that can happen right on our doorstep…..
Americas Cup, you were great, we’d love to have you back!
In the meantime, what next then for Plymouth Sound? The eXtreme 40s would look good out there…
